IAN SWITZER
Ian Switzer
I am an artist, not because I have a new subject to create, rather a new way to create the subject.” I immerse myself in the production of visual arts for the enjoyment and pure happiness it gives me, my career theme in regard to my artwork is that of understanding emotional intelligence. This theme expresses my emotions, and my ability to capture and recognize the emotions of others (a clear representation of my personal relationship with others and myself). When creating these works of art, they are produced one day at a time, allowing my day-to-day life, emotions, thoughts, and relationships shape themselves into a body of grounded work. This body of work has made it so that I may better understand myself as a young artist and further discover what works in the eye of my audience. Whether my creations are of simple or complex compositions, I try to provide a new sense of understanding. Whether it is a color I see or a new representation of a subject, I aim for a fresh and unique perspective. Through the use of various mediums such as watercolor, inks, acrylics, oils, and pencils, I am able to explore and apply new ideas and concepts to my works of art fixated on the primary goal of capturing that sense of emotion not only within a timeless image, but with my viewers as well. My thought process of using that human sense of emotion to tell a story challenge me to manipulate my mediums, research symbols, and play with color theory to begin to provide a universal understanding to anyone who gazes in my work’s direction. I have become more aware of my own empathetic tendencies and how my relationships and personal well-being coexist. Through my stylistic choices and attention to detail, I convey the importance of self-expression, for viewers to naturally connect with the work I produce.
